Before getting to the bids, I want to explain something.
Fireitup’s goal is to document one person’s adventures in “going solar” in a way that will help — and maybe inspire — others to try it too.
I think Alec and Tony explained the principle best:
Granted, they were talking about killing a rogue man-eating bear, not going solar, but you get the idea, right?
If you’ve been following Fireitup, you know that “going solar” means more than just mounting photovoltaic panels on the roof. It includes, for example, researching and buying an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
(More about this soon, but in the meantime, if you’re interested in electric vehicles, the non-profit group Plug In America is the best place to start.)
My intention isn’t to recommend one brand of panel or one installation company over another. There are just too many variables for such a suggestion to be meaningful for someone with an apartment in New York or a yurt in Oregon, or a houseboat in Sydney harbour, or an condomínio in Rio.
So the bids I give here won’t have the company names attached. Just thought you should know why.
