Solar Boat: One Week To Launch

Around the Globe with Solar Power

Just a reminder for those who haven’t been following the story, the world’s largest solar-powered boat is at T-1 Week and counting (as of 11 AM, EDT, 3/24/10).

The PlanetSolar was unveiled last month at the HDW shipyard in Kiel, Germany. The launch will also take place in Kiel.

The boat is over 100 feet long, 50 feet wide and 24 feet high and covered in 5,382 square feet of solar panels. Following the initial shake-down cruise, the PlanetSolar will begin its attempt to become the first completely solar-powered boat to circumnavigate the globe.
