With the election over and Barack Obama assured a second term, what direction will U.S. energy policy take?
To explore our possible energy paths, I spent the last eight months looking at the largest industrialized nation to have begun switching to a 100 percent renewable energy economy: Germany.
On Tuesday, November 13, InsideClimate News will begin publishing Clean Break, the story of a country shifting from fossil fuels and nuclear power to clean sustainable energy sources like wind, solar, biomass and geothermal power. (The full series will also be available as an e-book on Tuesday with photographs, interviews and an introduction by Christopher Flavin, president emeritus of the Worldwatch Institute.)
I’ll be writing more here about the German Energiewende — energy transition — in the coming weeks. For now, I invite you to read the articles at Inside Climate News. I hope you’ll be as excited as I am about our potential to make a clean break from the disastrous energy policies of the past to ones that usher in a clean and safe renewable energy future.
