Senate opens climate bill hearings

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Sec. Chu (Energy), Admin Jackson (EPA), Sec Vilsack (Ag), Sec. Salazar (Interior)

The second, and some predict most difficult, act of Congressional hearings on a climate and energy bill got underway this morning before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, chaired by Barbara Boxer (D-CA).

Solar power has already popped up, including when Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) asked why “cheap and safe” nuclear power receives loan guarentees (not to mention a taxpayer-funded insurance policy) while solar does not.

The second panel begins at 2 PM DC time. Testifying will be Rich Wells, Dow Chemical; David Hawkins, NRDC; John Fetterman, mayor of Braddock, PA; and Governor Haley Barbour (R-MS).

You can follow the hearings live from the committee’s Website, or track the twitter feed, hosted by Grist here.
