With the cranes now dismantling the twenty solar houses on the National Mall, it seems only right to give the teams a send-off on these pages.
But it hurts to do it — the excitement you see on the faces above was felt all the way down here in the Southwest. We were inspired by the dedication and ingenuity of every team there. It’s probably best not to start listing specific features and innovations students made on these amazing houses. Where would the list stop?

Instead, we’ll take this opportunity to thank all the participants, their sponsors and the folks at the DOE who worked hard to make the event a success. Thanks, again, for showing solar supporters - and skeptics - a hopeful vision of what a green future could look like.

So, it’s “goodbye,” Solar Decathlon 2009.
But, “hello,” Solar Decathlon 2010! See you in Madrid.
